Title : LabVIEW based smart electical energy metering : A cost effective solution for conventional door to door metering

Author Name : Radhey Panchal, Manish Thakker

Synopsis :

Conventional energy metering system in developing country like India follows manual system which requires lots of travelling, manual calculation of reading of electrical energy metering. This conventional metering system is highly person dependent. It doesn’t give any information about energy theft as well as it is very difficult to use individual energy data for optimization of electrical energy load management as all the manual data need to enter in to the system. The proposed automated energy metering system uses GSM/GPRS based smart energy meter which are able to transmit online electrical consumption to server periodically. It also provides energy security by providing alarming system during energy theft which is calculated based on average consumption load. In this paper the authors are also describing implementation concept of this system using LabVIEW software.

Title : Fire Control in Industries using Controller Area Network

Author Name : S. Kumaran, R. Raja Mohan

Synopsis :

Fire detection systems have become an integral part of safer homes and work places. But, fire detection systems are not effectively deployed in industries and fireworks factories, particularly in south Tamil Nadu. This unawareness and lack of technology have led to several deaths in the past and in the present. In general, the fire detection systems that are conventionally used, have some shortcomings such as weakness to noise, inability to pin-point the fire consumed area and faulty alarming due to the use of analogue transmission with 4-20mA current lines. This project, “Fire control and signaling in Fireworks industries using Controller area network”, presents a network-based approach to deal with this critical application, with the help of Controller Area Network (CAN) for pin-pointing the area under fire, determining the extent of spread, extinguishing it by triggering the actuators and finally to signal the fire station, with the help of GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology.

Title : Design and Implementation of Passive Filter in Industrial Applications

Author Name : B. Sivasubramanian, K. Vijayakumar , S. Kannan

Synopsis :

This paper presents a method and design of the harmonic filters for adjustable speed drives. Power consumption of harmonic drawing load is an increasing concern for cost conscious facility managers and engineers. The proposed system has the function of voltage stability, and harmonic suppression. This work presents a method capable of designing filters to reduce harmonic distortion and correct the power factor. The optimization process considers the discrete nature of the size of the element of the filter .The simulation results of the system have been carried out with MATLAB 10.

Modelling and Simulation Study of a Helicopter with an External Slung Load System

Vol.1 No.1

Title : Modelling and Simulation Study of a Helicopter with an External Slung Load System

Author Name : K. Thanapalan, F. Zhang

Synopsis :

This paper describes the mathematical modelling, analysis and simulation study of a helicopter with an external slung load system. The primary feature of the proposed model is the use of a helicopter model that consists of a six-degree of freedom and combined with a three-dimensional motion load model. Considering the two models, a mathematical model for a helicopter carrying an external load is obtained. The combined system model can be used for stability analysis and controller development to improve flight handling quality and system performance. Stability analysis of the system was carried out via simulation. Simulation results revealed that the stability of the helicopter is significantly reduced due to the presence of an underslung load.

Issue: Nov-Jan

Title : A Novel Approach in Touch Technology for Handled System Applications

Author Name : Arun S Raj, Mani R. Vasagam , Meenakshi B. Sundaram , Habibullah H. Sait

Synopsis :

In our day to day life, we physically interact with electronic devices is changing through our technological research. This change has led to recent techniques, including the development of touch screen technology. In touch screen technology, the operator is given an other method of how we can interact with a device. This technology already operates in three distinct ways: resistive systems, capacitive systems, and infrared systems. This paper will propose, focus and compare these technologies with a new concept of touch screens which works using transistors, focusing on the differences in application.

Simulation of P&O Algorithm MPPT With Output Sensing Direct Control Method Using Cuk Converter

Title: Simulation of P&O Algorithm MPPT With Output Sensing Direct Control Method Using Cuk Converter

Author Name: Mukesh Gupta, Rohit Jain

Synopsis:

In this paper, the MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) with resistive load is implemented in MATLAB with output sensing direct control method using Cuk converter. The simulated system consists of the BP SX 150S photovoltaic (PV) module, the ideal Cuk converter, the MPPT control, and the resistive load (6?). The selection of the purturb & observe (P&O) algorithm permits the use of output sensing control method which eliminates the input voltage and current sensors. The direct control method adjusts of duty cycle within the MPP tracking algorithm. The way to adjust the duty cycle is totally based on the theory of load matching. When the value of Rload matches with that of Ropt, the maximum power transfer from PV to the load will occur. These two are, however, independent and rarely matches in practice. The goal of the MPPT is to match the impedance of load to the optimal impedance of PV.
